Training
Group Training Ratios
Our average teaching ratio is one instructor to eight course participants. That means you’ll receive an exceptional level of personal attention, giving you the best chance of success.
Outline
The course provides on-mountain training over 5 days per week (weekends are used to practice techniques and put learning into practise).
Skiing/Riding Techniques
We will develop your skiing or boarding by firstly deconstructing your current technique, taking you back to basics and weeding out any bad habits. We build from there, using proven techniques, and improve your skiing/riding ability significantly throughout the course. If you need one to one instruction, then we will ensure that you get it.
Teaching and Work Experience
A large part of the training course will demonstrate how your behaviour can affect the learning process of your student. Lesson planning and handling your class will be learnt through practical situations.
You are encouraged to shadow your instructor to gain a wealth of real work life experience during the course. You’ll be 100% ready to handle your own class following graduation.
Sections of our programme take the form of an ‘internship' with The Academy that will give you the experience of dealing with real customers (and not just on the nursery slopes)!
You can use that experience to gain valuable references that are essential when applying for instructor positions anywhere in the world.
Customer Service Training
Becoming a good instructor is not just about being a good skier or rider. It is about working with people. Our programme includes a module relating specifically to customer service. We encourage all resort staff to sit this module.
Equipment Maintenance
Looking after your equipment is an absolute priority if you are going to get months of consecutive use out of it. We run a module on equipment care and maintenance, delivered by one of our equipment supplier partners. The certificate you gain from this module is recognised at professional levels.
