About Jasper

Marmot Basin

The Canadian Rockies Academy is based at Marmot Basin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with an utterly reliable snow record and an illustrious history of training high quality winter sport instructors for over forty years.

There are 84 officially marked trails at Marmot Basin, and the terrain is beautifully varied with wide open bowls and chutes towards the top of the mountain and some perfect glade skiing/boarding on wide runs flanked with trees lower down.

The ski and snowboard runs range from interesting blues to adrenaline pumping Double Black Diamond terrain with plenty of steep pitches and moguls to test the ability of even expert skiers or boarders.

And there is no waiting in lift lines - even during peak holiday periods! The mountain has a highly efficient, well laid out lift system so you spend more precious time on the slopes, and less time waiting for ski lifts.

Jasper - The Town

With a full time population of about 4,500 people, Jasper isn’t huge. But it is one of the best ski towns in Canada with a great selection of bars, restaurants, shops and host of other facilities to keep you entertained throughout your stay.

The town has some world-class sporting facilities including an Olympic size swimming pool, climbing walls and three ice rinks. Most importantly, Jasper residents have always welcomed Academy delegates as part of their own community.

Jasper is home to an incredible array of wildlife. Don’t be surprised to see moose, wolves, bighorn sheep and elk wandering around! The town is surrounded by towering mountains, snow-capped peaks, frozen waterfalls and ice covered lakes. It really is a magical, welcoming place, and visitors often find it hard to leave!
